HOW TO SERIES coming soon in audiovisua

// February 20th, 2010 // No Comments » // How To..., coaching

Hi all… watch this space for my series of short video HOW TOs on stage and screen acting techniques.

I will cover the following:

  • vocal and physical warm ups
  • how to approach a monologue (speech)
  • give you some ideas for auditions and character construction excercises

I am currently shooting them and will make sure they’re delivered to you from yours truly, with best wishes in the very near future! :-)

I have had many discussions lately with adult students about the differences between stage and screen acting, so much though that I will be launching group adult classes shortly, so those of you who may be interested in more information , and would like to enrol on this classes should contact me directly.

After discussion it appears that the most commonly held belief ( and I hate to say it but the biggest myth of all) seems to be that actors ‘do less’ in front on the camera. I only wish it was that simple, we don’t do less , we do ‘different’.  The energy and intensity of our performance is the same as if standing on the stage of a large theatre, which just execute a working knowledge of ’shot size’ and appropriateness of performance to that shot size…. my first how to series will demonstrate and explain this in more detail very soon.

Til then, take care

Find Your Voice and Get Ahead in Business

Karena thinking psychologyOk, so here’s the scene… your boss ‘asks’ you to present findings / projections  / sales pitch to some particularly important people. Rabbit in the headlights moment, s/he smiles supportively and with a quick squeeze of the elbow tells you “You’ll be fine”.

Now you are left with a sense of dread and foreboding. It’s not that you don’t know your stuff, its not that you aren’t well prepared.. it is that you know, just know that you are going to blush/sweat/shake and generally look out of control!

The biggest obstacle to delivering a good presentation is how your body and brain are communicating. It’s a great machine the body and over the course of evolution has helped you to survive everything from stampeding Mammoths to treks across the desert, all thanks to the magic that is your Autonomic Nervous System… responsible for fight or flight response. The trick is to have strategies in place that will control whether you run or stand your ground. Either option is best adopted with some grace and dignity.. so no headless chicken moments! So how do you gain this control, increase the efficiency of using that adrenaline in a positive and constructive way rather than let it rule you? Well, strategies that are grounded in performance art techniques frequently share a psychological base and as such can be used to enhance confident performance and rapport with an audience.

Your workshop / one to one session would be delivered by Karena Serdecka (aka Karena Franceska) who is a professional Actor, Musician, Director and Vocal/Acting/Singing Coach. Karena focuses on working with physical techniques to increase vocal and breath control. Karena has also specialised and lectures in psychology and applies much of her psychological knowledge base to increase confidence, assertiveness and sense of control.

Call Karena now on 07854743890 and let her assist you and your staff to really find their voice and get a head in business.

Local Talents Wanted

// May 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // coaching

I was so pleased and proud of the hard work, commitment and focus shown by my LAMDA students this term… Again, a very highly successful cohort of entrants: all of whom passed… and 40% passed with Distinctions!! A very deserved ‘WELL DONE ‘ to all.

Remember, both one-to-one coaching sessions and Adult classes are available for those serious about acting. I am a co founder of Soaring Eagle Productions and constantly keep an eye out for new talent (no matter what age) for potential casting opportunites. It is always important to refresh your skills base in order to do well at auditions… if you haven’t already… book now !

I am looking for local talented musicians: (bass, keyboard, drums) to collaborate on a recording project of new material. My influences are diverse, but could be classified as funk/jazz rock. Get in touch if you are interested.
